How he Bought a 1968 Binks Flying Dutchman for 50$ and He Renovated it

Meet John; based in Melbourne, Australia, John bought aย 1968 Binks Flying Dutchman forย $50 with a full set of sails and trailer included. ย The only problem was that this boat needed some major repairs structurally and more than a few licks of paint!

Theย Binks Flying Dutchman takes its name from the well-knownย myth of theย legendary ghost shipย that forever sails the ocean. ย In fact, itโ€™s probably safe to say that this boat looked like it had been floating around Davey Jonesโ€™ Locker!

So with that in mind, John passed the batten to his son Owen and with his supervision, his son beganย working on the boat. John claims his son had never used power tools let alone hand tools before. ย Since the project began he has replaced the transom and centreboard as well as other sectionsย and is still working hard on it today.

  1. Hello Louis
I noticed your article dated 30/3/2017 about John and Owen restoring a 1968 Binks flying dutchman.
I live near Melbourne and have a 1967 Binks Flying dutchman that I am restoring. My boat is in original condition
having been in storage for forty years. Could you pass my details to them so that we may be able to
be of help to each other.

    Cheers Case
