Sunreef Yachts Unveils Solar Skin 3.0: A Smarter Approach to Solar Panels for Yachts

Sunreef Yachts has introduced Solar Skin 3.0, the latest advancement in its in-house solar power technology, further strengthening its focus on sustainable solutions in the yachting industry. Developed specifically for marine applications, this next-generation system improves the performance, durability, and efficiency of solar panels for yachts by integrating AI-driven technology and optimized energy management.

Advanced Solar Panel Technology Tailored for Yachting

Designed and manufactured entirely in-house, Solar Skin 3.0 builds on the foundation of its predecessor with several key enhancements. Using real-time data and machine learning, the system continuously adjusts electrical output based on environmental conditions and shading caused by sails or the superstructure. This ensures consistent power generation, even in variable or low-light settings.

A new feature of Solar Skin 3.0 is the integration of photovoltaic cells on bimini areas, engineered to perform effectively in shaded environments. This enables higher energy yield across diverse cruising conditions, maximizing onboard energy resources without compromising aesthetics or functionality.

Enhanced Durability and Smarter Maintenance

In terms of durability, Solar Skin 3.0 maintains the standards set by the previous version—resisting thermal exposure over 100°C and withstanding over 20,000 mechanical cycles. Each panel is also equipped with RFID-enabled diagnostics, simplifying inspection and maintenance while ensuring long-term reliability.

The combination of efficient solar performance and intelligent diagnostics makes Solar Skin 3.0 a reliable choice for modern electric and hybrid-powered yachts.

Part of a Broader Sustainable Vision

The introduction of Solar Skin 3.0 is part of Sunreef Yachts’ broader strategy to expand its Eco Range, which combines electric propulsion systems, advanced battery solutions, and integrated solar panels for yachts. The system is already being applied across Sunreef’s new catamaran models, supporting longer-range cruising with reduced environmental impact.

Nicolas Lapp, CTO of Sunreef Yachts, explains:

“The latest generation of our solar skin delivers the highest performance currently achievable for silicon cells. By analyzing real-time data from our catamarans operating in the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, and Dubai, we’ve developed a smarter and more resilient system that adapts to real conditions at sea.”
