VALLON Launches Sustainable Sailing Eyewear: ‘Malizia’

A Collaboration with Professional Skipper Boris Herrmann and Team Malizia

VALLON, a pioneering brand in sustainable sports eyewear, has officially launched its newest product, the ‘Malizia’ sailing sunglasses. These high-performance, eco-friendly sunglasses are the result of an exclusive partnership with renowned professional skipper, author, and climate action ambassador Boris Herrmann, along with his Team Malizia. Designed by sailors for sailors, the Malizia sunglasses are set to redefine eyewear standards in the maritime world.

A Sustainable Partnership

The collaboration between VALLON and Boris Herrmann’s Team Malizia highlights a shared commitment to sustainability and performance. Team Malizia, celebrated for their role in Greta Thunberg’s transatlantic journey to the UN Climate Action Summits in 2019, brings their expertise and environmental ethos to this unique eyewear project. Boris Herrmann, a longtime advocate for ocean conservation, is an ideal partner for VALLON, aligning perfectly with the brand’s vision.

Innovative Eco-friendly Design

The Malizia sunglasses are crafted from 85% recycled fishing nets, a testament to VALLON’s dedication to reducing ocean plastic. These frames are not only eco-friendly but also meet the high durability standards required for the demanding conditions of offshore sailing. The sunglasses feature VALLON’s proprietary V52® polarized lenses, known for their exceptional optical clarity and lightweight design, providing essential protection and comfort for long days at sea.

The new V52 lenses have exceptional optical clarity that far exceeds industry-standard high-performance lenses. With an ABBE value of 52, they have less distortion and provide better vision compared to polycarbonate or Trivex materials. The V52 lenses are also 20% lighter, with excellent impact resistance for added safety and complete UVA/B protection. The polarizing filter reduces glare and enhances contrast for even sharper vision on the water, while the lenses are water-repellent and oil-repellent.

Commitment to Mangrove Restoration

VALLON’s commitment to environmental restoration extends beyond product design. For every pair of Malizia sunglasses sold, the company pledges to plant 10 mangrove seedlings in the Malizia Mangrove Park. This initiative has already led to the planting of over one million mangroves, playing a significant role in restoring coastal ecosystems.
