NO MORE HOLES! Yew! Finishing off the repairs to the hull we fibreglass the outside for strength and make it water tight. These are the biggest glass jobs we have ever done!!! This video was filmed in March as the global pandemic took off. Thailand was one of the first countries affected and we took the adequate precautions early to protect ourselves. In Sailing Nandji Ep 183 we are getting close to finalising the repairs to Nandji after the reef scenario… The broken timbers have been removed and then re-planked by a local Thai contractor. To cover the timbers on the outside and to fill the seams the guys used an epoxy filler which I ground right back ready for fibreglassing.
I had already back filled the seams on the inside with an epoxy wood glue and then fibreglassed over the lot including the structural ribs. The outside is now ready for more fibreglassing and we tackle the biggest glass jobs we have ever attempted.
Before the reef scenario, we thought it would be fun to get a crew member on board for the sail across from Thailand to Sri Lanka, Laura from another Youtube channel came to join the crew and it was helpful to have another set of hands for the final fibreglassing job. Nandji is nearly ready to go back in the water and the repairs are coming to an end, the only question now is… Will our boat float???
