Saffier Yachts has officially released the first sailing video of its new Saffier SL 46, the 14.90-meter yacht that marks a significant step forward for the Dutch shipyard. Best known for its high-performance daysailers, Saffier now enters the bluewater cruising segment with a model designed for long-range comfort, efficiency, and solo handling.
The video confirms what many expected since the project was unveiled: the SL 46 is not just about style. It’s a capable cruiser that performs under sail, with a clean deck layout and well-thought-out rigging solutions aimed at reducing crew workload.
Saffier SL46, Performance and Usability
With a hull length of 13.75 meters (LOA with bowsprit: 14.90 m), the SL 46 offers a generous beam of 4.45 meters and a displacement of 10,900 kg. Under full sail—118 square meters between the 68 sqm mainsail and 50 sqm self-tacking jib—the boat moves with balance and precision. Options include an electric furling system, Elvstrøm EPEX sails, and even a carbon rig for owners seeking enhanced performance.
Twin carbon wheels, centralized winches, and all lines led aft make the boat suitable for shorthanded sailing. The cockpit ergonomics reflect Saffier’s experience in designing boats that are easy to handle without compromising sailing enjoyment.
Two Versions, One Platform
The SL 46 is available in two distinct versions: MED and NORTH, tailored for different cruising grounds.
- SL 46 MED: Features an open cockpit with modular benches that convert into sunbeds—ideal for warm-weather sailing and relaxed anchorage living.
- SL 46 NORTH: Offers a closed transom, integrated tender garage, and enhanced storage capacity, making it more suitable for colder climates and extended offshore passages.
This dual-approach philosophy allows Saffier to address a wider range of sailors without altering the fundamental DNA of the design.
Interior and Fit-Out
Below deck, the SL 46 reflects a refined yet practical layout. The yacht is offered in a three-cabin configuration with a forward owner’s cabin (with optional en-suite), two aft cabins, and a spacious central saloon. The L-shaped galley includes Corian countertops, fridge, oven, and ample stowage. Interior styling is understated, with light oak finishes and premium upholstery.
Headroom is generous—up to 2.05 meters in the saloon—while multiple deck hatches and hull windows provide natural light and ventilation.
What the Video Reveals
In the first sailing footage, the SL 46 demonstrates poise and power in moderate breeze. The boat accelerates cleanly, remains responsive on the helm, and maintains a comfortable heel angle even under full canvas. The video also shows the seamless transition between powered sailing and cockpit relaxation, with plenty of attention to crew comfort.
The hull shape, developed in collaboration with Satellite Yacht Design, delivers both form stability and good load-carrying capacity—vital for offshore passages.
