Windelo Unveiled the 51 Sport and 55 Sport: Performance-Oriented Catamarans with an Eco Edge

Windelo introduced two new models that mark a significant evolution in their range: the Windelo 51 Sport and Windelo 55 Sport. These models replace the previous Windelo 50 and 54 Sport, setting a new benchmark for performance cruising catamarans with a clear focus on sailing efficiency, lightweight construction, and sustainability.

Performance First, with No Compromise on Comfort

Designed by naval architects Christophe Barreau and Frédéric Neuman, the 51 and 55 Sport versions push Windelo’s performance DNA further. A series of optimizations—both structural and aerodynamic—have been introduced to enhance speed, responsiveness, and upwind capability.

Key developments include:

Compared to their predecessors, these new models achieve more than 500 kg of weight reduction, contributing directly to improved sailing performance.

A Racing Rig and Hi-Tech Sail Plan

The rigging package has been redesigned with a performance mindset. A carbon mast extended by one meter, Kevlar shrouds, and a new carbon crossbeam allow for a larger and more efficient sail plan while cutting weight aloft by nearly 15%.

The standard sail inventory includes:

3D membrane sails made from offshore racing materials are now standard, and the self-tacking solent system is replaced by a traditional sheet setup to allow for more precise trimming and the optional addition of a removable forestay and staysail.

Lightweight Interiors and Structural Innovation

Inside, Windelo continues its approach to eco-responsible design, but with a sportier feel. Interiors are stripped back, dynamic, and functional, featuring exposed technical composites like basalt fiber and carbon at the helm stations.

To reduce structural weight and withstand higher dynamic loads, the internal bulkheads are made entirely of carbon fiber. The layout is simplified but remains comfortable for extended cruising, staying aligned with Windelo’s core values of sustainability and liveability.

Sport Identity with an Eco-Conscious Foundation

While performance is clearly the main focus of these new versions, Windelo hasn’t moved away from its commitment to environmentally conscious boatbuilding. Bio-sourced and recycled materials remain part of the construction process, as does the use of modular, energy-efficient systems onboard.

The Windelo 51 Sport and 55 Sport are designed for sailors who want more speed and responsiveness without giving up the comfort required for offshore passages. With these two models, Windelo is not simply following the performance multihull trend—it is actively shaping it.
