The annual Mallorcan festival of sail, scheduled this year from June 19 to 22, has consistently celebrated the return of familiar contenders and the debut of new entrants on the Bay of Palma racecourse. In the upcoming 2024 Superyacht Cup Palma, organizers are thrilled to welcome two exquisite Hoek designs: the 32m Namuun (formerly Simba) crafted by Turquoise Yachts and the 40m Hoek Truly Classic Halekai built by Pendennis. Additionally, the striking 28m ketch Tawera (formerly Catalyst), a creation of Ron Holland Design from Alloy Yachts NZ, will grace the event with its presence.
“We have known about Superyacht Cup Palma for many years and have looked forward to being able to be a part of what is clearly a great regatta,” said Tawera’s owner Mike Mahoney.
“Now that we are here in the Mediterranean it is simply too good an opportunity to miss out on, so we will see you on the start line!“
Confirming their intention for a comeback, defending Cup holders Rose, with their 24m Wally, are expected to encounter strong competition once again. The Swan 100 Onyx, the runner-up in their class in 2023, poses a formidable challenge to Rose.
The rivalry continues with Velsheda and Svea gearing up for a rematch, and the participation of Rainbow, another J Class, adds excitement to the upcoming event. Rainbow, absent since its last appearance at SYC in 2014, recently underwent a significant Dykstra refit, including an optimized deck layout. Designed by William Starling Burgess, Rainbow successfully defended the 1934 America’s Cup.
Notably, Pendennis Shipyard, a significant superyacht participant, is making a welcome return to SYC, resuming its role as a Gold Sponsor. “We’re excited and pleased to be back and supporting the 2024 Superyacht Cup Palma. It’s fantastic to see a number of yachts taking part this year that have either been built at or refitted by us at our Falmouth, UK yard or technical service centre in Pendennis Vilanova, Spain,” said Toby Allies, Managing Director.
As the America’s Cup commences in Barcelona a few weeks after the Superyacht Cup Palma, it is evident that the western Mediterranean is the premier destination for maritime enthusiasts in 2024. Nestled in the heart of the Mallorcan capital, Superyacht Cup Palma has promptly unveiled its enduring proposition. The event has confirmed its dates, published the Notice of Race, and is offering berthing opportunities on a first-come, first-served basis at the esteemed Real Club Náutico de Palma—a longstanding race management partner and event host for SYC.
In addition to the return of Pendennis Shipyard, the organizers of SYC can once again count on the steadfast support of their Preferred Hotel Partner, St. Regis Mardavall Mallorca, as well as the Official Timepiece Sponsor, Jaquet Droz. The event is further bolstered by the backing of Silver Partners, including Astilleros de Mallorca, Marinepool, North Sails, Southern Spars, Pantaenius, and RSB Rigging Solutions.
