Morning breezes at day 2 of the Southern Wind Rendezvous and Trophy

MORNING BREEZES AND AN EVENING UNDER THE STARS AT DAY 2 OF THE SOUTHERN WIND RENDEZVOUS AND TROPHY

Light breeze in the morning followed by dancing in the evening: Day two of the Southern Wind Rendezvous and Trophy was a celebration both on and off the water.

In the morning the Rendezvous fleet head off for a leisurely sail around the Monaci island, but put a few Southern Wind yachts on the water and watch what happens: SW82 Ammonite and SW96 Sorceress were soon engaged in a spectacular luffing match. Both yachts came to the Rendezvous with some top professional sailors on their crew lists and an eye on preparing for upcoming regattas: today’s light but steady breezes offered the perfect conditions for a bit of friendly competition. Ammonite can now boast Line Honours for the day and a couple of hours of sailing fun proved to be the perfect way to build up an appetite.

Last night the eagerly awaited Southern Wind Owner’s dinner was held at La Sasima, an enchanting rural property in the Sardinian countryside. Offered in partnership with our sponsors Gottifredi Maffioli, Pantaenius, Doyle and BAE. The owners of all yachts participating were presented with prizes celebrating their unique contributions to the Southern Wind community.

The 16th edition of the Southern Wind Rendezvous and Trophy got underway in light breeze and sunny skies. Perfect conditions for enjoying a day on the water with friends and family.

PRO Peter Craig announced that the AP would be raised for the racing fleet until the breeze filled in, but that didn’t stop the Rendezvous fleet from getting their party started. Picnic lunches by Giagoni offered in partnership with Doyle Sails were distributed after the Captain’s briefing and the Rendezvous fleet enjoyed calm waters and sunny skies, heading towards Cala Coticcio at a leisurely pace for a quick swim.

The wind filled in at 3:00pm and the fleet had a start off the Cala then raced each other south past Mortorio and finishing between the Cardinal and Nibani islands. After a good two hours of sailing fun, it was Sorceress who got line honours for the day. In the racing fleet Morgana finished fifth after two and a half hours of racing.

After a perfect day that left all owners and their guests and crews with wide, happy smiles on their faces, tonight Owners and their guests will enjoy the dinner that Giorgio Armani is dedicating to them.

The owners of Sorceress and their guests were all smiles after their day of sailing. “We had a really good time,” the owner said. “Too bad we didn’t get to sail in the morning too but the afternoon was wonderful, real champagne sailing.”
