ICE 70, The Italian ‘Bluewater Fast Cruiser’ Ready For Mini Maxi Races

The project of the ICE 70 by ICE Yachts has been realized using the most advanced modeling and analysis software available today. “Thanks to the new virtual reality ‘tools’,” explains Felci Yacht Design, “we have been able to make the owner and the shipyard participant of many geometric and stylistic choices. It is a yacht with high technological potential, starting from the design of the hull and the appendices“.

With this sporty bluewater sailboat – the ICE 70 debuted at last Cannes Yachting Festival – the Italian yard wanted to create a technologically avant-garde boat with large, comfortable indoor and outdoor spaces, which is easy to sail and entirely safe at sea. Like all ICE Yachts models, the ICE 70 is a semi-custom product with which the owner has many possibilities for customization and equipment.

The shape of the canoe body is born to obtain top performances to participate in “long-distance” offshore races or to excel in Mini Maxi competitions. The shapes of the hull are characterized by a reduced wet surface and at the same time by high stability of form, both components determining the performance. The lifting keel (4.5 to 2.8 m), makes the Ice 70 easier to use when cruising and at the same time improves performance and stability when sailing or racing.

ICE 70, the exteriors

The deck is the result of an ergonomic and functional study, with a single cockpit, deep enough to increase security. The deck of the Ice 70 is characterized by a squared, flat and slender deckhouse, with large double-layer glass windows, from which the light that illuminates the entire “raised” living room diffuses.

The cockpit benches are wide and made even more comfortable by the possibility of fixing water-repellent cushions made “by design”, which can be removable and easily stowed in the garage, which also has two entrances from the cockpit.

The deck equipment is laid out in a simple and traditional way: the primary winches and mainsail winches located in a backward position, easily reachable both by the crew and by the helmsman; the mainsail halyard is also remoted near to the aft winches so as to allow it to be hoisted directly staying at the wheel.

It’s interesting to consider all the machinery, such as the main engine, the bow, and stern truster, the anchor and mooring winch, all the hydraulic rams, including the one that operates the lifting keel, and the full deck lighting system can be operated from the console.

The ICE 70 is equipped with a carbon bowsprit, which allows you to tack a gennaker, a zero code as well as being used as anchor arm. The transom is openable to give access to the large garage, in which you can stow a tender of and many other items needed on board.

ICE 70, the interiors

The bow is a dedicated area to the master cabin, large and elegant with a master bathroom complete with shower and sauna all covered in teak and with a study, and to the guest area consisting of a cabin with double bed and large wardrobes and a dedicated bathroom.

The aft area, organized with the captain’s cabin, communicating with the kitchen area, is completely independent in order to guarantee considerable privacy for the owner and his guests. Typical configuration of maxi yachts of greater dimensions that allows complete privacy between the owner and crew.

The wood veneers used in the furnishing of this first model are natural teak. The inserts that cover the vertical elements and create a continuum in all living spaces are in natural leather. The yard chose to play with the shades of beige and white for the fabrics, with some nuances for the seats and sofas, thus diversifying the two living areas: that of the lighter living area, that of the TV, a darker gradation, to give to this place of relaxation greater intimacy.
