We received a lot of answers to our #mondayquiz “Who Was The Sailor?’”. The correct answer was… Santiago Lange!
Santiago Lange is one of the most distinguished sailors in the history of Argentine yachting and well-known personality on the international scene.
A naval achitect by trade, his extensive and brilliant sports CV includes some remarkable Olympic Games, where he won bronze in the Tornado class in 2004 and 2008 and an incredible gold in the Nacra 17 class at Rio 2016 less than a year after surgery to remove part of one of his lungs. He also boasts multiple world titles across the Snipe, Tornado and Nacra 17 classes.
His personal palmarès include the 2008 Olympia Prize – the most coveted award in Argentine sports – awarded after his performance in Beijing, and World Sailing’s 2016 World Sailor of the Year.
He has also taken on the challenge of major international competitions, such as the Volvo Ocean Race. He first participated in the 2001/2002 edition with Team SEB crew member, before returning for a second time in 2008/2009 with Telefónica Negro.
