One year before the Race, Golden Globe entrant Shane Freeman rescued from dismasted yacht
Australian yachtsman Shane Freeman has been rescued by a Chinese-flagged grain ship after his yacht Mushka was knocked down and dismasted 300NM west of Chile. 61-year-old Australian sailor was on his way to the race’s start line in the UK in his Tradewind 35 class yacht when the incident happened on 18 February 2017.
This was his first major solo voyage. He has now abandoned the yacht, which has been scuttled to prevent a hazard to navigation.
