Southern Wind presents the new Reichel Pugh 90 Custom; it will be ready in November 2016.
In recent years, the superyacht market has been characterised by growing interest in large high performance yachts (over 28m) featuring enhanced geometries and a higher level of customization – a demand that could not been overlooked by a shipyard whose world renowned technical expertise and superlative craftsmanship has been focused on these very elements for over 25 years.
The hull and appendage design of the new Reichel Pugh 90 Custom are the result of multiple performance studies conducted on yachts of this size, and features a lifting keel for shallower harbor end bay access, while the 6,96m keel offers excellent stability and sail carrying capability considering the vessel’s lightship displacement of 48,000 kgs.
In contrast to these high-performance attributes, the yacht’s interiors are designed to provide all of the luxuries required for leisure cruising, with the master cabin forward and two guest cabins – one forward and one aft of the saloon. The crew’s quarters are located to the aft and boast easy access to the yacht’s systems and deck without disturbing the guests.
The ergonomic deck layout is designed for high-quality lifestyle at anchor, with comfortable on-deck dining and shower facilities and easy swimming access, while also allowing for ocean crossings with minimal crew and optimized sailing during coastal racing. The design features a bowsprit for racing that can easily be removed for cruising.
An important component of the Reichel/Pugh philosophy is the studio’s total commitment to safety in all aspects of the design process. The deck, interior and structural arrangements are all designed with onboard safety in mind and developed to be as functional and reliable as they are aesthetically pleasing, ensuring easier, safer handling of large sailing loads for the crew and optimal comfort and leisure features for guests.
This custom project will bring many innovative features to the Southern Wind production line – innovations that we look forward to revealing in the coming year. The yacht is currently under construction, with delivery planned for November 2016.
