The original Discovery 55 quickly became an icon that blue-water sailors around the world have long aspired to. After years of requests for a smaller version the yard shares the designs of our stunning new Discovery 48.
Sporting all the hallmarks that make the Discovery range unique, the 48 will retain the hugely practical raised saloon and navigation area, the fast passage making hull and the quality bespoke British craftsmanship. As with all our yachts, the new Discovery 48 has been specifically designed for safe and easy short-handed sailing together with the luxury of home-from-home, onboard living.
There are two variants of the new Discovery 48. The Ocean version offers single wheel steering in a large centre cockpit, and two luxury en-suite cabins. The Discovery 48 Riviera version has been designed with twin wheels, a huge open cockpit and three double cabins, two aft and a sumptuous owner’s cabin forward. Both yachts will feature a fold-down bathing platform, the Discovery twin-headsails and our unique raised saloon and internal navigation station.
Commenting on the new yacht, John Charnley, Chairman and Founder of Discovery Yachts noted, “For years we have been under pressure from aspiring owners to build a smaller yacht that offers the same blue-water credentials, high-quality build, and Discovery hallmarks as our existing range. The time is now right for us to introduce the stunning Discovery 48 with its choice of layout options to suit both our traditional blue-water owners and to widen the appeal to those preferring Mediterranean/Caribbean cruising with an even larger cockpit and extra cabins. We believe that this new yacht will have great appeal to those looking for a premium, British built yacht – coming as it does from a hugely experienced boatbuilder that offers great value and the exceptional Discovery quality.”
