KOMOREBI, the new VPLP project, is it a sailing vessel?
KOMOREBI is the project that embodies VPLP values and Know-how.
An efficient and highly stable vessel capable of crossing oceans but agile and shallow- drafted enough to enter small places. She is not a sailing vessel, nor a purely power yacht, but a little bit of both.
Komorebi is a Japanese word that describes how sunlight filters through the leaves of a tree. It has given rise to the architectural concept of incorporating natural light into design. VPLP has taken this idea as the basis for an ambitious project to develop a huge yet graceful trimaran which does indeed give priority to natural light. Patios and open deck spaces encourage natural airflow through the vessel’s three levels, each space having been designed for a particular moment of the day so that passengers can live in harmony with the natural world.
Her fully automated wings are powerful enough to drive her at 15 knots with 20 knots of wind with no engine on and save at least 30% of fuel on hybrid mode in a crossing.
Depending on your point of view, she’s either a trimaran or a monohull with stabilizers. Her hybrid propulsion includes two rotating masts and wingsails which can be reefed and stowed.
Komorebi’s design invites to relax, unwind, rejuvenate and live harmoniously again. Reflected in the elegantly muted styling and ultra-open layout affording great vistas and private places throughout the vessel. This Hybrid trimaran is the perfect answer to comfort at sea, space, stability, low running costs as well as a big step towards a clean wake.
